Facet joints are the small sliding joints on the back of your spine that let you twist and bend. When they get worn out or inflamed from arthritis, they cause sharp back pain that gets worse when you arch or twist.
Symptoms may vary depending on the location and severity of the condition:
Pain when pressing on the affected joint area.
Pain into the buttocks or shoulders.
Reduced motion after inactivity.
Pain that worsens with twisting or arching the back.
