The meniscus is a tough rubbery cushion between your thigh bone and shin bone that acts like a shock absorber. Cartilage is the slippery surface on the ends of your bones that lets the knee glide smoothly. Both can get ripped or worn down.
Symptoms may vary depending on the location and severity of the condition:
Knee feels unreliable during cutting or turning motions.
Fluid buildup that worsens with walking or sports.
Sharp pain on the inner or outer side of the knee.
Sensation that the knee “gives out” or locks during pivoting.
